Celebrating Local Businesses in Vermont
There are many reasons why people visit, and return to, our corner of Vermont. Our guests come for the beautiful scenery, the myriad of outdoor activities, a slower pace, and just for the general beauty of Stowe, Vermont and the surrounding area.
Another draw for our visitors is the thriving, independent businesses in and around Stowe.
Local businesses add personality to the local charm of our area, and it’s so much fun to be able to walk into a store and speak with the owner or check out the high-quality products that are usually made right here in Vermont.
These are some of our favorite local businesses that we love visiting time and time again:
Local Businesses in Stowe
Want to stay close to Stowe during your Vermont vacation? No problem! There are many wonderful places to explore right in Stowe!
Laughing Moon Chocolates
Best gourmet chocolates I’ve ever eaten. This local chocolate shop is located right on Main Street in the middle of Stowe. It looks small on the outside, but as soon as you walk in you are greeted with the rich aroma of fresh handmade chocolates and fudge. They’re all handmade, which makes all the difference!
Take some time to browse the hundreds of beautifully crafted, handmade truffles and buttercreams laid out in the cases, or pause for a few moments to watch and chat with the expert chocolatiers who are crafting the delicious treat right before your eyes. Plus, don’t miss the fun section in the back with all your favorite classic candies!
Shaw’s General Store
Shaw’s is a classic piece of Stowe history, selling everything from Vermont gifts and souvenirs, to great clothes and shoes since 1895. Walking across its original wood floors will transport you back to 19th century Stowe! Take some time to enjoy the eclectic array of items in the store, and be sure to pick up a few items to remember your time in Vermont!
Cold Hollow Cider Mill
Cold Hollow is so much more than just cider. This classic Stowe stop has all kinds of Vermont products, from food items to kitchen supplies and even clothing.
With free cider samples aplenty, you can grab a small cup of fresh-pressed cider and watch the process happen from a viewing area near the back of the store. Or, take some time to browse the hundreds of unique items and taste some food samples. Don’t forget to grab a jug of cider and a few cider donuts on your way out!
Heading there around breakfast or lunchtime? There is a breakfast and lunch spot located right next door, which recently started producing their own hard cider! Take in the scenery and enjoy a delicious bite and a cold drink.
Go in the fall when the cider is fresh, or visit any time of the year where you can still get the full experience of the cidery!
Looking to venture outside of Stowe during your stay? There are plenty of great Vermont businesses to check out that aren’t too far from us!
Vermont Teddy Bear Company
If you’re looking for the perfect snuggle buddy, Vermont Teddy Bear has you covered! Their made-in-Vermont plushies are incredibly well-made and adorable, to boot.
Check out their store, where you can pick out a teddy bear or one of their other cuddly animals, and choose a costume or theme for it if you wish. Kids can even choose their own bear fur and stuff their own!
Plus, you can go on a tour of the factory, where they walk you through each step of the bear making process, from sewing to stuffing and shipping. With a lifetime guarantee, Vermont teddy bears make a great gift that will last a lifetime!
There are a few things that are classic Vermont, and Cabot cheese is one of them! Owned & operated by real farmers, Cabot has been making award-winning cheddar cheese & other dairy products since 1919. With a store located close to the Stowe-Waterbury line, you can get a taste of a true Vermont product while you’re here!
Pick up some of the classic cheeses, sample some of the most popular, and check out tons of other great foods and beverages all in one stop!
King Arthur Flour
If you’re a cooking or baking fan, this is one stop you won’t want to miss out on. The combination store, restaurant, and baking education facility in Norwich, VT is a place you can easily spend most of the day browsing.
Their lunches and baked goods are fresh, delicious, and the perfect meal to fuel your shopping endeavors at the attached store.
You can even sign up for a baking class and learn a thing or two about making eclairs, pizzas, and many other treats! Just be sure to sign up early, because the classes can fill up quick!
