Indoor Family Fun for the Off-Season
We’ve got a lot of names for this time of year when the warm days of fall are over but it’s not quite full-on winter: shoulder season, stick season, off-season. However you refer to it, it can be a great time to plan a getaway as there are fewer crowds and many places offer great off-season rates or packages.
It’s also a great time to explore the many indoor options we have for family fun in the Stowe area! There are lots of great activities available that are not weather dependent and offer great experiences and a chance to relax and explore.
This innovative science and nature center is located on the shores of Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT. There is so much to see and learn here that, combined with a stroll down Church Street or a lunch at one of the many local restaurants, this could be a full family-day activity! In addition to fixed exhibits focusing on local history and habitats, ECHO also offers a variety of changing events such as live animal demonstrations, hands-on activities, and a 3D movie theater. There is also an on-site cafe with a variety of healthy lunch options.
This is another fantastic family experience where everyone gets to learn something and have a good time. Located in Norwich, VT, it is a totally hands-on science museum that encourages children to touch, learn, and experiment! This one is fun for the littles on up to the grandparents.
If you’ve got people with a lot of energy and the weather is not cooperating, this trampoline park is a great choice. It’s located 45 minutes north of Stowe in Williston, VT. Jump around for one- or two-hour sessions and you’ll get your exercise for the day! This location is not far from Burlington, so it’s a great option if you want to explore the city and add in an activity the kids will love.
Stay local, relax and play a few frames at our very own bowling alley! We offer 8 bowling lanes as well as comfortable lounge areas, an eatery, and a full bar. A favorite with our guests and also open to the public, this venue is great during any season.
Another totally local destination, this one is wonderfully unique and full of history! Explore a little of the past with exhibits and photographs that tell the story of one of Vermont’s favorite pastimes.
Vermont is famous for its many ski and snowboard opportunities, and also for the ice cream! This tour is informative, lots of fun and a just a little quirky. Learn how two guys took a class on ice-cream making and made history with their creative flavors and commitment to the environment. Every tour finishes with an ice cream sample for everyone!
Home ice to several tournaments of local renown, including the Hyde Cup, Stowe Winter Carnival, and Stowe Youth Hockey, this skating rink features ice from June through March, and offers fun special events and scheduled public stick & skating times. Bring your own skates or rent from the arena. (They also offer helmet rentals and skate sharpening!) Stowe Arena is close to Stowe Village, so you can explore a little and stop for a hot cocoa after gliding on the ice.
What about an activity everyone loves? You guessed it: the movies! Not only is Stowe blessed to have a 3-screen first-run movie theater, the Stowe Cinema 3PLEX also features a full concession plus a full cocktail bar! And, we can’t leave out the fact that their popcorn still comes with the option of REAL BUTTER. How’s that for something for everyone?
